Having the exterior of your house painted is no small undertaking and can be quite stressful if you don’t have the right people for the job. At My Color Magic Painting, LLC, we want to give you some tips, so you hire the right company for your residential exterior house painting job. Hiring the right company can make a world of a difference in your experience before, during, and after having your house painted. We’ve assembled five tips that we believe will help make it easier for you to work with a painting contractor.
1. Stress the small stuff.
You want to get the details right when you’re paying someone to do a home improvement project on your home. Think about everything from the trim to the corners and everything else that goes into painting your house. Ensure that your contractor pays close attention to the details of your home by taping off edges and trim, so you don’t get small smudges in paint that will be an eyesore for years down the road.
2. Get multiple quotes.
It’s always a good idea to speak with several painting contractors before you make a hire. Remember that contractors are working for you, so you don’t need to hire the first person with whom you speak. Interview at least three contractors and get an estimate from each. Consider what each contractor offers and what they’re charging for it. Choose what’s right for you, not based on the price of your quote. Find the balance between service and cost that works for you.
3. Get the color right.
The last thing you want to do after a residential exterior house painting project is look forward to doing it all over again. Make sure that you get the color right and that you’ll love it for many years to come. One recommendation to ensure that your color is what you want it to be is to look at the sample in natural light. Take it outside and look at it in direct sunlight. If you’d like to be extra thorough, take a look at the sample in the morning, afternoon, and evening sun, so you can make sure you love the color at every time of the day.
4. Ask about past work.
You can learn a lot about a contractor’s style and approach by looking at some of their past projects. Don’t hesitate to ask for samples of previous work, so you can see if their work fits what you’re looking for. Keep in mind that painting a house is a creative process like painting anything else, and contractors will have their own approach and ideas. Learn about how a contractor’s style comes to fruition and what that will look like on your house.
5. Get everything in writing.
Don’t take anybody’s word for anything when it comes to contract work. Make sure you get all the nitty-gritty details in writing. The aspects of your project you want to make sure are explicitly written out include (but are not limited to):
